ASTORIA

  • From October 2013 until September 2017 I lived in Astoria. It became my home. It's where my life changed and took shape. These are the collected works that I released while living in Astoria - together for the first time.

It was when I got my first real pedal that I discovered my sound, it was an Earthquaker Devices Avalanche Run. I had purchased it at Main Drag Music in Williamsbug, BKLYN. The salesperson said “you’ll plug in and then realize three days have gone by.” He was right.

This entire album was originally five separate releases I put out onto my Bandcamp when I was first starting. After the suggestion of an old friend having heard some of the noodling that ultimately became PVBE, that I decided to release music.

Post Vacation Blues Exploration was one improvised piece with solely the Avalanche Run. I had just returned from a life-changing trip to London and Italy and was sitting in Studio B on 26th Street on the 19th Floor. I often played myself to sleep and let the recording go. This is the very first and true release of Six Missing.

One Room was an improvised performance captured in Apt 2A in Astoria, solo guitar. I had my amp in the bedroom and I played in the living room. This was a very special performance and I am thrilled to have it here.

Long Distance Conversation was an entirely improvised guitar piece that was then later sent to Eric. He improvised a pass on piano in his studio in PA and sent it back to me. I mixed this track while on a freelance job in Manhattan where my job for the day was to “look like I worked there” while they walked clients around. I forgot about that until typing this.

Last Day of June was a heavily effected and droney performance of solo guitar first and then passages of bass, my very first attempt at a drum sequencer, and sound design was added on top of it. Clips of audio are from the Apollo 13 recordings as well as Timothy Leary meditations. Recorded and mixed in Apt 2A, Astoria.

Tap Dancing on Lily Pads was originally titled “Tap Dancing on Lily Pads, Who Cares?” and was another collaboration of solo improvised guitar in Apt 2A and then shipped off to Eric in PA to add drums. I then received his pass back and performed a passage of bass. Loosey goosey, we were.

Astoria is an epic journey and listen. Ideal for background working music. This was my first release on Spotify.
